I think a whole lot of us who are a certain age still think that is the Perfect Meal. You'd have liked the ribeye I ate this weekend. I know I did. Dunno about the pea salad, though...

Let me give it a try again - your system wouldn't accept my post the last time.

Forward delete is either ctl-D in most, but not all, programs. It doesn't work, for example, in Firefox but does in Textedit. It's also Fn-delete in the later mackbooks, and that does work in all programs I've tried it in.

I had the problem with windows resizing all the time, and it turned out to be how I held my hands. That touchpad is sensitive to fingers that are just above it but not actually touching.

Well, I posted a comment on the other Mac post, but why not another? If your IBM keyboard doesn't work out, I know some people have had luck with the Unicomp Customizer 104 on Mac OS, and that's more or less a Model M. There's also the rather expensive Matias Tactile Pro 3, which is based on the Apple Extended Keyboard. The Tactile Pro 3 is, I've read, a lot like the original Tactile Pro, in that it doesn't have all of the problems that made the Tactile Pro 2 so notoriously awful. Hopefully your IBM works out well enough, though.

It should be pretty simple to use another monitor and mouse with it, at least (although we do have a projector in our lab that doesn't work with most -- but not all! -- Macs).

Customizable Mac OS in a PC machine? Sounds like Linux (or BSD or whatever) with Xfce. Maybe that's just me.

I never used the Insert key much, but I do recall being mildly annoyed by the missing Delete key when I first got my Mac. You get used to it after a while.

In terms of the windows reducing in size, I'd be willing to bet that you have an active screen corner in Expose set to "All Windows". That's the first thing I would check.

Forward delete is ctl-D in many (but not all) applications. It doesn't work in Firefox. It's also Fn-Delete on some macbooks. This doesn't seem to be documented anywhere.

The resize seems to be due to holding the hand so the thumb is too close to the pad, but not actually touching it.

I think the lack of dedicated function keys is a feature on most laptops, not just Macs. One of the things I miss on this is an easily accessible F5 with which to refresh my browser window [use cmd+R].

I would assume that you could attach a usb keyboard to the mac and use that. You can tweak some of the keyboard shortcuts in System Preferences/Keyboard. Beyond that, you might have to dig around in the seedy unix underbelly.

Also, I think I may have a lead on your tab issue. Are you minimizing windows? Tabbing through won't activate minimized windows. Try hiding the window instead [cmd+H].

Eh, only about 2 weeks. I'm kind of an old mainframe/mini/DOS guy so I like all the dedicated function keys.

Let's face it: I need a customizable Mac OS in a PC machine.

The delete takes some getting used to. I think it took me a couple of months. Now I have trouble switching back to the windows style of delete (which is fn+delete or control+D on the Mac).

On the scrolling, it sounds like you're unintentionally moving your fingers together, causing a pinch zoom. You can turn that off under settings.

I can't replicate the Cmd+Tab problem with it only bringing the menu bar forward. Do the programs you're trying this with have windows open?

For the insert key function, fn+cmd+return.

How long have you had the Mac? I've had mine for about a year and am still learning the key commands.
